Weekend Away

weekendaway_3 arrowThere are few things more precious than the weekend away. The countdown begins on Friday at about, oh… 8:17am. And whether you’re going to Montauk, or Puerto Vallarta, one thing is certain… if you don’t pack every last lotion, lipstick, gel, balm and serum, you’re going to be one unhappy Product Whore. Fear not, gorgeous gals!

We’ve been there, and we’re here for ya. Take notes, because we’ve complied a list of faves to get you through those 48+ hours of responsibility-free, carb and wine-filled heaven, looking like the glamour puss you were meant to be!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara makes some lofty claims. Zero smudges? Well, this gal with the oily eyelids will always have a teeny bit o’ smudge. But it does indeed provide a nice amount of lengthening, and will last  through whatever fun adventures you have planned: sun, surf… multiple sweet, frozen drinks served in a coconut by a cabana boy… Read the reviews.

Josie Maran’s Argan Tinted Moisturizer is a travellin’ gal’s BFFL. Deliciously creamy, will protect you from Mr. Sunshine, and with a tint of color for coverage. Let’s face it, there are a zillion tints/BBs/CCs and even DDs on the market right now,  but this is something special-the consistency is satiny, and it sinks right into the skin. Josie’s been my traveling companion many a time now, hooking me up with an even, sun-kissed look, and making sure I never burned. Thanks, girl!… Read the reviews.

Cleansing Wipes have become more boring than watching Anna Karenina. On a loop. Enter Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Wipes, which have reinvented the concept for the more discerning gal on the go. Glycerine will ensure you won’t go to bed looking like a puckered prune…. Read the reviews.

Please let me introduce my main man, Dr. Dennis Gross. Ladies, trust me when I say you should pack some of his Alpha Beta Glow Pads in your overnight bag for the perfect exfoliating/anti-aging/sun-kissed glow. Just wipe and toss. Bam- you were just skiing in the Alps. You were? Jealous. Next time take Dennis AND me with you. :)… Read the reviews.

Dare I say my high maintenance days are over? (Hear me out…) The last time I traveled I only packed ONE concealer, instead of what i usually do, which is one for my undereye circles and one for my blemishes. YSL’s Anti Cernes Multi Action Concealer is a powerhouse that somehow manages to be creamy enough to look natural under the eyes and pigmented enough to cover imperfections on the face. This of course left more room in my makeup bag for 5 mascaras (they all do different things!)…. Read the reviews.

Lush’s King of Sin. You’re about to fall in love with your hotel shower. (Ryan Reynolds not included, sorry.) Picture this: All natural solid cocoa and shea butter bar- fresh avocado, banana and oatmeal. Rub it all over under hot water, and then…. the moisture stays on your skin! But wait. It gets better. (Sorry… Ryan’s still stuck in traffic…) Warm it up in your hands and you can use it OUT of the shower as a solid body lotion. You’re welcome. Love, your PW Fairy Godmother… Read the reviews.

I don’t know about you ladies, but the last thing I want to be futzing with when I could be lying on a white sandy beach with a Mai Tai in my hand is my eyebrows. Other hand: Who wants to be seen on said white sandy beach with patchy, anorexic brows? Smashbox Brow Tech To Go makes it easy- naturally looking wax on one side, pencil on the other. The color won’t smear, either, so go on with your bad self and jump in that water, girl. (Just go easy on those Mai Tais…)… Read the reviews.

PW rule of thumb: wherever a PW goes, so must a toner, too. But make it good, PWs. Murad’s Hydrating Toner is good for whatever climate you might find yourself in. Witch Hazel will tighten and tone the pores – good for hot and humid environs– as I experienced recently, in St. John. (Nice for the skin, BAAAAADDD for the hair.) Cucumber and Seaweed will soften and sooth the skin–lovely for cooler or harsher weather, such as my monsoon-like conditions camping in England, OUCH…. Read the reviews.

I’ll admit it- I’m a sucker for bright, shiny, brightly colored accessories. So, when shopping for an affordable eyelash curler to take to Long Island for the weekend, my eyes immediately fell to this lovely one from the Sephora Collection. I wasn’t expecting much due to the low price point, but I perked up upon seeing that it had two replacement pads (!!!) and then, when I actually used it, well! No pinches, and it did an a-ok job of holding a curl. Hey, I’m not looking for miracles for $17- I wanted Bambi-lite lashes for the weekend, and this most definitely held it’s own…. I’m on a never ending quest to have J-Lo skin– not only does it look like she’s permanently lit from within, she also looks like she’s on perma-vacation. In my quest to duplicate this look (whilst on a mini-vacay myself) I fell in love with Clinique’s Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator. While, I’m not sure your skin will “Sparkle”, it will certainly be as soft and supple as a baby’s bum, and you’ll be shaking it a la Lopez in no time…. Read the reviews.

I’m not entirely sure what “Seaberry” is supposed to smell like, but I do know Fresh Restorative Body Cream instantly transported me to an all inclusive tropical resort (for the record, that’s NOT where I went…) Besides the amazing scent, the cream is so emollient, i put it on before a long plane ride, and got off with hands like satin gloves…. I’d been using the same crappy $3.99 Goody comb to work through my curls for years. Thankfully a friend told me about Ouidad Double Detangler Comb, and it has been one of my most beloved traveling companions ever since. Since you can never trust the water in unknown lands (even exotic places like New Jersey!) it’s a good idea to bring along products and tools that will be super gentle to your tresses, and Ouidad has never done me wrong. HIGHLY recommended for other gals who are also plagued with a bad case of the tangles…. Read the reviews.

You put the words “Anti Aging” in front of anything and you automatically have my attention. Alterna is already on my “hell yeah” list for their amazing Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner, so when I saw their travel size Anti Aging Working Hair Spray on the Sephora check out line, I grabbed it, hoping that it would hold my blow out in place for the next day or two. I got a day, not two– but to be fair, my travel destination was Humidity Central. The spray gives a nice hold, with movement, and tons of shine. Another score from Alterna…. Read the reviews.

I’ve been a Bumble and bumble fan since my tween years–seems like mere minutes ago! Their Super Rich Conditioner was another mad, Super Market Sweep-like scoop on my way to catch the Long Island Rail Road to my eastbound weekend destination. I had no idea what to expect, but for 9 bucks, as long as I could get a comb through my curls, I’d be a happy girl. Imagine my delight when my curls dried frizz free, soft and smooth. My only regret is that I should’ve bought two, as I was a shameful overpourer and nearly used the whole thing in one wash. Pssshhtt- next time, mama’s going for the full size!… Read the reviews.

Gals, may I suggest that once in a blue while, when on vacay, let that mane air dry. Your locks will thank you, and you will save precious pool/spa/mimosa/friend/significant other time. I’ve found your bestie to accomplish the task: DevaCurl Light Defining Gel. Wash, condition,  then apply a little of your DevaCurl from root to tip,  and scrunch. Then, go to pool. Order drink. Nap. Repeat next day. Thank your PW Fairy Godmother. :)… Read the reviews.

I’ve just discovered the line Soap & Glory, and I’m kinda really freaking happy about it- great ingredients, affordable, and a great range of products to choose from, including my new favorite lip balm- A Great Kisser (Yup). I tested this baby out during the ultimate moisture suck- the plane ride- recently and am happy to say that the mango and apricot butters kept my kisser in tip top shape. The light tint is super pretty too, because, hey, you never know who’s going to meet you when you land. (In my case, it was some lovely people at St. Thomas airport with shots of rum, and I was unbelievably happy to see them, complete with moisturized, coral lips.)… Read the reviews.

L’Occitane Divine Eyes Serum has saved me from the Time-Zone-Change-Puffy-Eye-Zombie-Look on many occasions. It’s a weeeee bit (and by that, I mean a lot) out of my price range, so I try to use it only when I’m traveling– but for reals, gals, nothing is better than this for de-puffing, soothing, moisturizing, and calming…. “Love” perfume from Lush is my number one scent of all time, the tart apple scent is the freshest and most feminine I’ve ever sniffed. However, I’m a klutz. I have spilled more bottles of perfume into suitcases than I have glasses of Shiraz on white sundresses. (i.e., a LOT.) Along comes Lush… not only making a solid version of my fave perfume, but making an ALL NATURAL version of my fave perfume using organic jojoba oil. Sigh, Lush… will you marry this red wine swilling klutz?… Read the reviews.

Alrighty, gals. We’ve hooked you up with all the odds and ends to make you look gorgeous for your perfect weekend away. But where are you going to stash all of your goodies? You didn’t think we’d leave you stranded, did ya? Sephora Collection’s The Excursionist might be the most supremely amazing makeup/hair travel case that ever existed. Big, but not TOO big, it literally has a nook and a cranny for ALL of the things, plus a built-in hanger, GASP. There’s a space for all of your brushes, your lotions, your potions, your creams, your makeup… it’s perfect. Plus all the compartments make it so spillage would be contained (thank you, PW gods!) If I could fit the Product Pup in there, my life would be complete! ;)… Read the reviews.
