Leyna’s List

leynas listLook, who the hell am I to claim this list is the be-all and end-all? A Shameless Product Whore, that’s who! But really, I’m openminded and always experimenting. So this List of My Gold Star Faves will evolve. In fact, I have a list of many more that need to be added.  So if I have missed something you’d bring to a desert island, don’t be shy. Pester the hell out of me to try it HERE.  I love when other PW’s share my passion. Now enjoy go lather, slather, and shmear some of my faves!!

02389Honey Trap (LUSH).  This lip balm is the cat’s meow – great for soothing dry, chapped lips. I love how I can put it on at night and still feel it in the morning. The smell is not overpowering – it’s just pleasant and slightly sweet. It’s preservative free. First five ingredients are:  Fair Trade Shea Butter, Almond Oil, Beeswax, Honey, and Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. And for seven bucks, I’m sold. Read My Review

4+2-EgyptianEgyptian Magic.  This amazing cream can be slathered anywhere and everywhere, and has only six all-natural ingredients:  Honey, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen and Bee Propolis. No additives, preservatives, fragrances, chemicals or parabens. Don’t just goop it on. Rub it between your hands for a sec first, then shmear.  Read My Review

71+cA4eL3eL._SL1500_Medicine Mama’s Sweet Bee Magic. I feel the same way about Medicine Mama’s as I do about Egyptian Magic. Mama’s is about $10 cheaper and has a verrrry minor smell to it (not bad, just there.) It’s also organic. Read My Review

_7907245Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream (with SPF 50). This looks dewy, so if you are very oily, you may not like it. I love it. If you live anywhere near Kiehl’s or a Kiehl’s counter, they are generous with samples and this sample lasted me about two weeks before I broke down and bought it. Read My Review

71qH20lKrGL._SL1500_L’Oreal True Match Foundation.  My tried and true, inexpensive foundation option. Blends beautifully and looks just as natural as foundations double and triple the price. Read My Review

31ONABnwJuL._SY450_Make Up Forever HD High Definition Foundation.  The bomb diggety of foundation.  I use it anytime I need to up my game, or I’m attending something worth my more “expensive” face (hey, ‘tis true, and on days like this, my routine starts with the La Mer route…) Read My Review

3328_lgCreme De La Mer.  Are you smack-talking me ‘bout now? Eye rollin’? Not my fault! My husband got it for me years ago, I saw the light, and I’ve been justifying this purchase ever since. But I go stingy with it. I use it for a few nights before a big event and when my skin is dry. Read My Review

51c25BlXYjLMake Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder.  Talc-free. Leaves my skin looking flawless and does not settle into fine lines. A little goes a long way and finishes my look beautifully. However note:  this is best on fair skin. Read My Review

41SXGNASYTLNeutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70.  Goes on great under makeup, and doesn’t make me break out. Good price point for so much protection. A must. Read My Review

41z82e1ZP3LNeutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+.  I use the ultra sheer lotion (Neutrogena) on my face, and this spray on my body. I focus extra on my chest and arms. I keep an extra bottle in my car. Even if I wear a hat, I still use this on my chest area. Ready My Review

00221Lush’s Skin’s Shangri La.  This is one of those head scratchers. It’s SUPER rich, but sinks right in. Really soothing, but feels very active. Ready My Review.  (NOTE:) Lush also has an extravagant moisturizer called “Gorgeous” – which was quite nice and smelled heavenly. Twice the price of Shangri La, so not on my list.

81y2NNAzdOL._SL1500_Viva Paper Towels.  May the environmentalists strike me sideways for this, but I will not dry my face with a washcloth. No, ma’am. Read My Review

or_0HGJ01_300Starting Over Facial Moisturizer (Origins). I cycle through my moisturizers, and this makes the cut for my day rotation. It’s a lovely moisturizer and goes on great under makeup. I could list all the bad crap it does not have in it as bragging points, or you can research it yourselves. Read My Review

71F-IUqwW2L._SL1500_Cetaphil.  Sometimes I’m such a snore. Like now.  For a quick morning face wash, Cetaphil is it. Keep in mind I alwayssss wash my face at night, regardless of how much I drank, how tired I am, or whatever my work schedule or son might be doing to me at the time. Read My Review

or_0HGJ01_300Origins Age-erasing eye cream with Mimosa.  Good for soft, moisturized, less crepey skin around the eyes. This product made my eye cream rotation. Also nice under makeup – not too shiny. Read My Review

41aJfvhvRILHerbacin Kamille Hand Cream + Glycerin.  Everyone who has ever borrowed this hand cream from me asks where to get this. It’s my day hand cream. At night (and when necessary), I use super big guns. But during the day, this is excellent and has an awesome finish that does not leave my hands tacky and capable of lifting newsprint. Light, pleasant smell. Read My Review

61H5q5+qFKL._SL1005_Motions Hair and Scalp Daily Moisturizing Hairdressing.  I discovered this in the ethnic hair care aisle years ago, and now it’s so hard to find! I had to hunt it down online. It’s better than products five times the price. Read My Review

31dxnOG76DL._SY450_TRESemme Curl Definition Jelly for Flawless Curls.  Creates shine and helps define curls.  Cheap product which works better than others five times the price.  Disclaimer:  It has the worst dispenser ever, but still worth it because the product is so good.  Read the Reviews

51acmwqF0QLIt’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask.  Thank the lord, I can now get my comb through my hair in the bathroom – and it doesn’t take 10 minutes! Recommended to me by hairstylist I trust. Product claims it will detangle, soften, defrizz, restore moisture and elasticity, impart luminous shine, enhance body and improve color vibrancy. Check, check and check.  Good for a hair mask, but since I only wash maybe twice a week, I actually use it as conditioner and just leave it on in the shower for several minutes while I attend to other biznet. 31wE8p9+KkLIt’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product.  Miracle, indeed. Seals and protects my thick, tangled, wavy, “horse hair” – as my mother lovingly calls it. This is the bomb dot com. Can’t say enough good about it. I also love the hair mask and it made my list of faves. It’s one of the best leave-in conditioners out there – especially for my hair. Read the Reviews

s1375658-main-LheroORIGINS “MODERN FRICTION” – nature’s gentle dermabrasion.  Awesome exfoliator worth every cent! When I was sniffing around Origins, the salesperson gave me a shpeal about how coarse crystals in some exfoliants break blood vessels and other scary facts that had me riveted and desirous of protecting my vessels right away. I buckled and bought it. Survey says… LOVE IT and have purchased for many a friend.  Read the Reviews

51cEY6nx0oL._SL1000_Kevyn Aucoin: The Eyelash Curler.  Curling my lashes is a must. Even if I don’t wear a stitch of makeup, curling makes me feel good. The red pad on it makes it easy to line up with the lash roots. Won’t take off your lashes.  I am split down the middle between this one and the Shu Uemura curler, except the latter cannot be bought in the states. So for easy purchase, go with the Kevyn Aucoin. _5438387SHU UEMURA EYELASH CURLER.  This was the workhorse of lash curlers. They don’t sell this in the states anymore but you can get it on the Shu Uemura site, or several other sites. Read the Reviews

51NLCh4lYOLGOODY OUCHLESS ELASTIC THICK HAIRBANDS.  These ponytail holders stretch well, hold tight, and no hair breakage. They lose their shape over time (which ones don’t?), but they are cheap enough. I like the thick ones way better than the thin ones. Read the Reviews

51yjzdy519LTrader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter.  Thick, rich, creamy, and smells divine (not sickeningly sweet.) Absorbs well. No parabens. Another label could charge four times the price for this regal concoction. With Shea Butter, Coconut oil, and Vitamin E.  I’m praying they don’t discontinue it, as they have been known to do with other greats.  Read the Reviews

41ukQUAUiuLDesert Essence Tea Tree Oil.  Always in my medicine cabinet. Known to cure everything from ear infections to mosquito bites to zits to athlete’s foot. Epic. The smell is strong but clean. You get used to it. I’ll never get a pedicure without putting a few drops of it into the water. It’s a natural antiseptic and will help ward off potential lurking fungus. Yes, I get looks, but that doesn’t stop me. Why this brand? I like the clear bottle and it’s 100% pure Australian tea tree oil. Read the Reviews

31myyNLRHCLThe Double Detangler Comb by Ouidad.  This comb is GREAT for knots in my thick wavy hair. For me to shell out $24 bucks for this comb, and buy ANOTHER for my gym bag and yet ANOTHER for my travel bag (which I keep packed at all times because packing products when traveling is migraine-inducing) – you know I think it’s the cat’s meow. I have tried a ton of the other Ouidad products, but I can’t say I love ‘em. However if you have a mop of easily-tangled hair like me and you spend way too much time brushing conditioner through it, use this comb during or after your shower. Read the Reviews

Prod_SugaSugaPolishGroupSuga Suga Woo! Woo! (Pristine Beauty).  Totally rocks my world. “Exfoliation polish for a Goddess” — direct quote from moi. The whopping 6 oz jar is packed to the rim with the heavenly concoction (the cheap bitch in me swoons.) She mixes extra fine sugar with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Seaweed, Maqui Berry (hello, POWERHOUSE!), Vitamin C and Rose Hips. Even with the oils, it won’t clog your pores. Different than any facial exfoliation I have ever used in that I was so moisturized after! Rub it on your mouth, too! Lipstick will glide thereafter. Smells divine. I rub the excess on my hands so they benefit. Read the Reviews

31B+vQmaRULAveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisterizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30.  This drugstore-brand tinted moisturizer fully competes with Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer, but has more SPF (Mercier has SPF 20). 81kuB-inKCL._SL1500_Votivo Red Currant Candle.  Ok fine, this is not a beauty product.
